News hardware Asus formalizes the Zenfone 9, a small but sturdy smartphone: the competitor of the iPhone 13 mini?
The Asus Zenfone 9 is now official: this brand’s new flagship is faithful to its predecessors, offering a very compact size that hides a great promise of power. Here it is in detail.
Just a few weeks after launching its ROG Phone 6 on the market, Asus is doing it again with a new terminal under Android 12: the Asus Zenfone 9. If this one does not have the marked gaming orientation of the model mentioned above, it still shares certain points in common with it.
The mini format of the Asus Zenfone 9
With his AMOLED display with a diagonal of only 5.9 inches, the Asus Zenfone 9 presents itself as one of the smallest high-end smartphones running Android 12 on the market. He demonstrates in passing thatAsus stays true to its principlessince the Zenfone 8 displayed the same screen diagonal in 2021.
The Zenfone 9 panel is manufactured by Samsung. She displays a refresh rate of 120 Hz and she supports the HDR10+. The definition displayed is FHD+ in 20:9 format (1080 x 2400 pixels) for 445 dpi.
The smartphone has been designed to be handled with one hand, which goes hand in hand with the small screen diagonal. The new multifunctional power button Zen Touchpresent on the side, allows you to perform all the manipulations that normally require several buttons or actions on the screen: unlocking via a fingerprint sensor, opening notifications, scrolling, video control , and more.
The Asus ZenUI 9 interface also takes this ease of one-handed operation into account., which should appeal to those who are tired of too large screens. Finally, it is worth pointing out that the smartphone is equipped witha 3.5 mm headphone jack which supports the Qualcomm Aqstic WCD9380 codec.
Great power, great responsibility
If Asus dodged the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC this year, it’s to better go straight to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. This already equips the ROG Phone 6 and it has also taken up residence in the Zenfone 9. The performance of the smartphone should therefore be very good, but beware of the temperature!
In addition, we find 8 or 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 or 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage space depending on the version of Zenfone 9 offered.
The Zenfone 9, a photo-oriented smartphone
At the heart of the Zenfone, there are two photo sensors on the back:
- A main sensor 50 megapixel Sony IMX766 with OIS Gimbal, 2×2 OCL and PDAF
- An ultra wide-angle sensor 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 with dual PDAF
The 6-axis Gimbal OIS stabilization of the main sensor promises the elimination of tremors in order to eliminate the risk of making a blurry photobut it is also useful in making videos.
Added to this is a Light Trail mode in beta, which accompanies the more traditional Night, Pro, Panorama, Slow motion and Timelapse modes. The terminal is able to film in 4K Ultra HD at up to 60 frames per second and in 8K Ultra HD at up to 24 frames per second. In Full HD 1080p, it goes up to 60 frames per second and supports HyperSteady.
Finally, a 12-megapixel Sony IMX663 photo sensor with dual PDAF is present at the front for taking selfies.
